2007 lexus es review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new, more powerful, more luxurious than before. introductionthe lexus es is all-new for 2007. Boasting a new 3. 5-liter engine, the 2007 lexus es 350 is more powerful than last year's es 330. In fact, the lexus es with this new engine is now a serious performer. We were impressed with it and found it quick and responsive. Lexus says it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6. 8 seconds, a solid performance from its 272-horsepower engine. Likewise, the steering and handling are much more responsive than with last year's model.  still, the lexus es is a luxury sedan that celebrates smoothness, quietude and sophistication. It doesn't suffer the hard ride of a sports sedan. The ride is smooth, the engine is smooth, the transmission operation is flawless, and everything is quiet.  the lexus es has come a long way. When toyota launched its lexus brand of luxury cars in 1989, its entry-level car was the es 250, a thinly disguised camry chassis and powertrain with an upgraded body and interior. This car's role was to give the new dealers some sales volume to help support the big ls 400. And more safety features. The all-new 2007 es 350 makes the greatest single leap in es history.  the es uses front-wheel drive, while the lexus is models are rear-wheel drive. In short, the es is designed more for luxury and a smooth, comfortable ride, while the is models are designed more for performance and handling.  the es 350 will compete with the mercedes-benz c-class, bmw 3 series, infiniti g35 and m35, audi a6, saab 9-3, volvo s60 and a host of domestics in this popular class. Freestanding options include park assist, a power rear sunshade, heated and ventilated front seats, a full-size spare tire, a wood and leather trim package, and dvd navigation with backup camera.  optional equipment includes a navigation system, satellite radio (xm or sirius), a 14-speaker mark levinson stereo system, bluetooth wireless capability for cellphones, a panoramic glass roof, and radar-adaptive cruise control.  safety features that come standard on the es 350 include dual front airbags, a knee airbag, side-impact airbags (for torso protection), curtain airbags (for head protection), electronic stability control, traction control, antilock brakes (abs), electronic brake-force distribution (ebd), and a tire-pressure monitor system. If the system senses an imminent collision, it retracts all the outboard seatbelts and triggers full panic-braking power at the pedal (but it doesn't close the windows and the sunroof like the mercedes-benz system). walkaroundthe 2007 es 350 featires the lexus l-finesse design scheme used on three concept cars and the gs and is sedans, with everything emanating from the grille and flowing back over the car in hard lines. The new look brings a new level of slickness, only 0. 28 coefficient of drag in the wind tunnel, making the es 350 inherently quieter and more fuel-efficient than before.  the first thing that impressed us was the new look and more generous physical size of the car. The grille has been subdued, the headlamp units have been made smaller and less obtrusive, and the accent line along the side has been raised to yield more musculature under the skin. Now this car looks like it belongs in a lexus showroom.  the new es 350 was consciously upsized, to about where the original ls 400 flagship car was when it was introduced. There are 10 colors to choose from.  the es 350 is about 110 pounds heavier than the es 330 due to the addition of more safety features and standard equipment built into the price. interiorif there is any part of this car that could be called a quantum leap, it's the interior, which is much more together, more modern, and more fully equipped than any previous lexus es interior.  it starts with the standard smartaccess key fob and push-button engine starting, a first for the es, and goes from there. The instrument panel and center stack are completely new and much more driver-centered, engaging and involving that previous panels. The main instruments are deeply tunneled, using white led lighting and the optitron electroluminescent displays that are part of all lexus models, with their eye-pleasing startup routine. The standard trip computer monitors a dozen functions. All of the real wood trim is from a matched set that is serial-numbered for future replacement, if necessary. The thick, fat steering wheel is a pleasure to use.  there's more space overall, within a few cubic feet of the original ls 400 v8 rear-drive sedan at 95. 4 cubic feet, with more shoulder and leg room built in, and the rear floor is flat and can accommodate large american feet under the seats. There are three interiors to choose from in leather, perforated leather, or cloth, plus optional semi-aniline leather.  the new es is insulated well. At cruising speeds, it's extremely quiet, in part due to a new acoustic-control laminated windshield.  the driving ambience is superb, with good sightlines, the hooded instruments and crisp graphics, a 10-way power seat and standard tilt/telescope steering wheel. The new es 350 benefits from a brand-new all-aluminum engine design with all the latest technologies built in, and it's a honey, with 57 more horsepower than the 3. 3-liter engine it replaces, and one more gear to run through.  for the first time, performance is part of the equation in an es. Engine and transmission are linked by several electronic modules and the electronic throttle, and there were no glitches we could find. The engine and transmission are isolation-mounted with an electro-hydraulic mounting system to cancel vibration at idle. Lexus quotes a 0-60 mph time of 6. 8 seconds, which is certainly competitive in the segment.  two important additions of standard equipment on the es for 2007 are traction control and stability control which, when combined with this new chassis, allow sporting drivers to do maneuvers that no previous es would do, and quickly. The front struts and multi-link rear suspension are both very well isolated from the rest of the car, making for a quiet, smooth ride, with greater control of pitch and body roll than the outgoing car.  we think the es could use more tire on the ground than the standard 215/55r17s it comes with (there is an optional 10-spoke wheel package, but it uses the same size tires). We'd like a little more steering feel in the corners and on the highway, but otherwise the speed-related power steering is good and solid.  although the brakes themselves are average in size for this class, the electronic control package that comes with them makes them very powerful and very repeatable, with no sign of brake fade after a hard workout. Unlike its predecessors, the 2007 es 350 is quick and quiet at the same time, screwed together better than a swiss watch, and actually has some sex appeal for the first time in its life. In light of the new design and all the new standard equipment, there is every reason to believe that the es 350 will be among the fiercest competitors in the entry-luxury segment in 2007. We think it's an excellent choice among luxury sedans.  new car test drive correspondent jim mccraw filed this report from hawaii. model lineuplexus es 350. assembled infukuoka, japan. options as testednone. model testedlexus es 350. 2006 lexus other - car review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Smooth, quiet, easy. introductionliving with the lexus es 330 is easy. It's easy to drive smoothly, keeping passengers comfortable and making the driver look like a pro. The 3. 3-liter v6 engine and five-speed automatic transmission are refined and responsive. A supple suspension gives it a civilized ride on rough city streets, beat-up freeways and poorly maintained back roads. The brakes are easy to modulate for smooth stops in everyday driving. The es 330 is front-wheel drive and its emphasis is on convenience and comfort.  the seats are comfortable, the leather-trimmed upholstery is nice, and the rich-looking interior is accented in wood and aluminum-toned brightwork. Its controls are straightforward and easy to operate. An excellent mark levinson stereo is available as a factory option, and satellite radio can be dealer-installed. The rear seats are roomy and comfortable and feature outboard seatbelt pre-tensioners and force limiters. The trunk is a decent size.  true to the lexus legend, refinement, quality, fit and finish, and attention to detail are evident throughout. It can be heard in the solid sound the doors, trunk and hood make when they're closed.  lexus freshened the exterior appearance of the es 330 for the 2005 model, and upgraded some of the interior appointments. No additional changes have been made for 2006. lineupthe 2006 lexus es 330 comes as one well-equipped model 32,300).  it comes standard with many of the same luxury and convenience features found in higher-priced lexus sedans: handsome, high-quality leather upholstery with wood trim, automatic dual-zone climate control with interior air filter, power windows with auto up/down and jam protection, a power moonroof, and an am/fm/cd/cassette system with 86 watts and seven speakers.  options include a 240-watt mark levinson audio system, six-disc cd changer and xm satellite radio. Other options include vehicle stability control (vsc) with traction control and brake assist; adaptive variable suspension (avs); dvd satellite navigation; power-adjustable pedals with memory; power rear sunshade; high-intensity discharge headlamps with rain-sensing wipers; heated and ventilated front seats; wood steering wheel and shift knob; and 17-inch wheels and tires.  new for 2006 is the es 330 black diamond edition, a package 600) that features exclusive black diamond paint, black birdseye maple wood trim, and other distinctive touches and includes an exclusive tumi luggage set.  safety was a top priority when designing the es 330. Standard passive safety equipment includes dual front airbags (mandated), seat-mounted side-impact airbags (for torso protection), and front and rear side-curtain airbags (for head protection). The front seats are designed to help reduce whiplash. The outboard rear seatbelts are fitted with force limiters and pre-tensioners. To help the driver avoid accidents in the first place, the es 330 comes standard with such active safety features as anti-lock disc brakes (abs) and electronic brake-force distribution (ebd). Optional vehicle stability control is designed to improve driver control by reducing skidding in turns. walkaroundthe lexus es 330 makes a striking styling statement with its dramatic front rake and headlamps that look like silvery cat's eyes. The front end seems to slope down in one continuous curve, from the top of the windshield, over the sculpted hood and tidy dark grille, down to the smooth air dam under the almost seamless front bumper.  tail lamps trimmed in silver echo the design, stretching around the corners, as if reaching to meet the headlamps. Nine-spoke alloy wheels complement the sheet metal. The optional 17-inch alloy wheels use a six-spoke design. The passenger compartment is reinforced in critical areas, and front and rear crush zones are designed to crumple and to help absorb the impact of a crash. interiorthe cabin of the lexus es 330 is warm and inviting. Rich wood trim, available in golden bird's-eye maple or red walnut, goes well with aluminum-like accents. All of the trim materials exude a high-quality look and feel. The standard steering wheel and shift lever are covered with stitched leather trim and look very nice. An all wood-trimmed handle for the shift lever and a wood-trimmed steering wheel are available for an even more prestigious appearance. Regardless, the steering column is manually adjustable for tilt. Steering-wheel-mounted controls for the audio system and other functions are optionally available.  the standard leather-trimmed upholstery is quite nice, and the seats are very comfortable. The seating position is excellent, with lots of front-seat legroom. Optional power-adjustable pedals are especially useful for shorter drivers, helping them find a comfortable driving position without sitting too close to the airbag-equipped steering wheel; we recommend them for families with short drivers. The seats are relatively flat, without large bolsters, making getting in and out easier. The driver's seat comes standard with 10-way power adjustments, and both front seats have a memory function. The shape and construction of the front seats is borrowed from the flagship ls 430 and they can be ordered with integrated heat and ventilation.  the es 330 is about 10 percent larger inside than a mercedes-benz c-class, with significantly more front hip room. Five is a crowd, but it'll work for short distances. Overall, it's roomier and more comfortable (with more hip room and leg room) in the back of the es 330 than in the back of a mercedes c320 sedan. The self-dimming outside mirrors offer a good view rearward and seem larger than those on german cars; we prefer the lexus mirrors. The inside rearview mirror is self-dimming (electrochromic) and features a digital compass. The slope of the rear window doesn't allow a panoramic view, though it fills the rearview mirror. The rearview mirror is mounted so close to the headliner that adjusting it requires an awkward grab at its bottom edge. An optional power rear shade filters out the blazing sun, whether driving or parked.  the clean-looking instrument panel features three round, deeply recessed pods with highly legible optitron gauges. A digital trip computer at the bottom of the speedometer displays range, average fuel consumption and other functions, controlled by a pair of buttons on the left side of the steering wheel. Similarly, a digital odometer with two trip odometers is displayed in the right pod with big fuel and temperature gauges. On the left is a big tachometer.  the optional navigation system is powerful, with excellent graphics, a huge database (5 million points of interest), and voice activation. It's a good system, but requires some experience and study to master. To reduce the chance of driver distraction, the navi cannot be programmed when the car is moving.  audio functions are integrated into the navigation system, which we found a mixed blessing. To change preset radio stations, for example,. driving impressionthe lexus es 330 delivers a smooth, refined driving experience with a smooth engine and transmission, a smooth-riding suspension, smooth brakes, and extensive measures designed to reduce noise, vibration and harshness. And did we mention this car is smooth?  the 3. 3-liter v6 engine gives the es 330 responsive performance in everyday driving situations. Lexus says the es 330 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7. 2 seconds. It's rated 21/29 mpg city/highway by the epa and is certified by the government as a ulev ii ultra-low emissions vehicle. Power ratings are down slightly for 2006, to 218 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque, but that's only because the society of automotive engineers (sae) has instituted new test procedures that tend to deliver more conservative numbers. The engine itself, and its performance, have not changed. This year's es is just as powerful as last year's model.  the transmission shifts very smoothly. Upshifts in normal, everyday driving are almost invisible. Yet the gearbox delivers responsive shifts when driving aggressively. The gated shifter allows manual gear selection, but we found this to be a clunky proposition and preferred to just leave. 2004 lexus gs review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Lexus luxury in a big sports sedan. introductionthe lexus gs 300 and gs 430 combine the sharp driving dynamics of a sports sedan with the luxury, refinement and quality we've come to expect from toyota's luxury division. The gs 300, meanwhile, purrs along with one of the smoothest six-cylinder engines in the class. The steering is light for easy maneuverability when parking, but provides the driver with reassuring feedback on the highway. Fast and comfortable, these are great cars for long trips and for commuting on harsh, busy highways.  the lexus gs sedans have no peers for interior luxury and smooth ride. The interiors are wonderful, warm and pleasant in ambieance with light hues of buttery leather and rich wood. The controls are a study in ergonomic excellence, elegantly designed and easy to understand and operate. The back seats are among the most comfortable in the class.  lexus continues to deliver some of the best quality in the industry and its gs sedans are no exception. The gs 300 and gs 430 were ranked first in their class, the mid-size luxury segment, in the may 2003 initial quality study by j. Power and associates. lineupthe lexus gs series comes in two versions: the six-cylinder gs 300 38,725) and the v8-powered gs 430 47,825).  gs 300 is powered by a high-output, 220-horsepower 3. 0-liter inline-6. Gs 300 comes standard with cloth upholstery and automatic climate control with filtration and deodorization. Leather upholstery is optional 1,660) and comes with a memory system.  gs 430 comes with a 4. 3-liter double overhead-cam v8 that produces 300 horsepower. Gs 430 also comes standard with perforated leather upholstery; memory for the driver's seat, outside mirrors and steering column; and high-intensity discharge headlights.  both models are equipped with a five-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission, but the gs 300 also features e-shift manual controls on the spokes of the steering wheel.  options include a navigation package 2,000) and a superb mark levinson audio system 1,250).  safety features that come standard for both models include vehicle stability control, anti-lock brakes with brake assist, traction control, dual frontal airbags, seat-mounted side-impact airbags for driver and front-seat passenger, and seat belts with pretensioners and force limiters. The gs models also come standard with side curtain airbags for the driver and front passenger, very important because curtain airbags can provide protection for the head and upper body in side impacts. walkaroundthe lexus gs models make a strong visual statement. The design of the current, second-generation models is now in its sixth year, but it still has arresting looks. It's a classier design than that of its rival from japan, the infiniti m45.  most noticeable are the unique football-shaped headlamps that sweep up and back into the fenders. A separate set of inner front lights serve as the high beams and give the gs a distinctive look.  this look is echoed at the rear of the car with large multi-lens taillights that wrap around to the sides with a separate set of inner lamps that serve as tail lamps and brake lamps. Dual exhaust exiting from the rear bumper gives the gs models sports appeal; the rear bumper curves out at the bottom for aerodynamic ground-effects. An available rear spoiler adds to the racy look, but we think the car looks better without it and it probably doesn't improve the handling of what's essentially an understeering car.  in profile, the gs presents a dramatically sloping nose, with the lower edge of the windshield pushed well forward. Its graceful roofline arches back to a stubby rear deck, giving it what one magazine describes as a hunchback look. A chrome strip surrounds the side windows and accents the shape of the glass. This strikes an interesting contrast with the flat black window posts. For engineering reasons, the rear door glass is divided into two panes, with a separate fixed pane in the rear, a compromise that breaks up the graceful sweep of glass. interiorlots of leather, tasteful applications of wood, thick carpeting and a refined overall design provide a pleasant environment inside the lexus gs 300 and gs 430. It manages to feel roomy and cozy at the same time. The view out the front of the gs is excellent, but the rear view is restricted somewhat by the rear headrests and wide c-pillars.  the gs 430 instrument panel is a refreshing departure from other designs from japan. Turn on the ignition, and a black panel illuminates to reveal gauges with black markings on white faces, all lit from the rear. The intensity of the backlighting automatically varies with ambient light. The gauges are handsome, creatively designed and easy to read. There's a useful compass in the rear-view mirror.  audio and climate controls are logically laid out and easy to use, with separate heating and cooling settings for driver and passenger. A smog sensor automatically switches to the system into recirculation mode, blocking contaminated air from entering the cabin. An air filtration and deodorization system takes care of the rest, nice when pulling up behind a city bus. The remote releases for the fuel tank and trunk, located low on the left side of the dash, are initially hard to find, and the center armrest obscures the seat-heater buttons.  an optional touch-screen dvd-based navigation system calculates routes quickly. The lcd fills the center of the dash and handles audio and climate control functions as well as the trip computer.  the standard audio setup in the gs is very good. A sensor stops the window or roof panel and warns the driver when anything (such as a child or pet) is blocking its path. The supplied keyless remote can be used to operate the windows and/or moonroof automatically. A hidden electric garage-door opener can be programmed for nearly all frequencies.  the trunk lid raises a full 90 degrees, and the lift-over height is low for easy loading and unloading. At 14. 8 cubic feet, cargo capacity is comparable to that of other cars of its size. driving impressionthe lexus gs sedans offer a nice balance between performance and luxury, leaning more to the luxury side of the equation than their competitors from germany. They are an excellent choice for the driver who values a smooth ride, a quiet cabin, and hassle-free operation over sharp handling and racetrack performance. That is a big difference in dollars, but it's also a huge difference in performance. Equipped with a v8 engine, the gs 430 accelerates much more quickly than the gs 300. Plus the gs 430 comes with a higher level of equipment than the gs 300.  like bmw, lexus uses an inline-6 for the gs 300, and enthusiasts tend to prefer inline six-cylinder engines over the more popular v6 configuration (which costs less to build and takes up less space). The inline-6 used in the gs 300 is a wonderful engine. It purrs like a kitten and we think it's smoother than the six-cylinder engines from bmw and mercedes. The 3. 0-liter engine produces 220 horsepower and lexus claims it can propel the gs 300 from 0 to 60 mph in 7. 8 seconds and through the quarter mile in 18. 8 seconds. That's brisk performance, but don't expect to win many drag races. It earns an 18/23 mpg city/highway rating from the epa, which is average for the class.  the gs 430 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5. 8 seconds, according to lexus, putting it in a league with some of the world's best sport sedans. Yet its sound is very subtle, a high-tech mechanical note rather than the angry racket of a corvette's v8. The 4. 3-liter v8 produces 300 horsepower and 325 foot-pounds of torque. Strong low-rpm torque gives the gs 430 plenty of around-town cruising power, and allows it to sprint away from intersections. Lexus says it can turn the quarter mile in 14. 2 seconds. In spite of its impressive acceleration, the gs 430 nets an epa-rated 23 mpg on the highway and is certified as an ultra low emissions vehicle (ulev).  all lexus gs sedans come with a five-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission and a console shifter. It's a smooth and responsive transmission. The gs 300 can also be shifted by using a set of buttons on the front and back of the steering wheel. Pushing the button on the front of the steering wheel downshifts one gear. Pushing the button behind the wheel upshifts one gear. 2002 lexus is review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Sportcross hauls stuff, too. introductionwhen the lexus is 300 sedan was introduced as a 2001 model, it became the first real sports sedan in the lexus fleet. So the sportcross is officially a 4+1-door. Fortunately, the car isn't as awkward as its tag. In fact, it is anything but awkward.  the is 300 uses lexus's sophisticated, 3. 0-liter, inline six-cylinder engine, renowned for its smoothness. It produces 215 horsepower on recommended 91-octane fuel. Like the is 300 sedan, the sportcross uses a five-speed manual automatic transmission with racy shifting via buttons on the steering wheel in the manual mode.  also new for 2002, is a five-speed manual gearbox for the sedan. lineupfor 2002, the is 300 sedan with the five-speed e-shift automatic retails for $30,805, with front side-curtain airbags added as standard equipment.  the sportcross starts at $32,305 for that same level of standard equipment, and features slightly wider rear tires on half-inch wider rims, and a sturdy rear window washer/wiper.  major options for all is 300 models include black or ivory leather seats with full power in the front 2145), a leather/escaine (suede-like) version for $1845, dvd gps voice navigation system 2000), power moonroof 500), heated front seats 440), vehicle skid control 350), and a limited slip differential 390).  the is 300 sedan with the five-speed is a sports model that includes a sport-tuned suspension, and sells for $29,435 with all the same standard stuff. The wedge-shaped format has a conspicuously low prow, and in 2002 the hood has grown a cosmetic bulge down the center to suggest power, which it does, especially from the driver's seat. Creased lines on the hood flow steeply down from raked a-pillars to a familial trapezoidal grille; in 2002 there are three horizontal bars, one less than in 2001. It is ringed with chrome and bordered by jewel-like hid headlamp clusters. Within the air dam, there are round halogen foglamps shielded behind trapezoidal composite lenses.  in the rear, there are subtle changes; the taillight housings are smoked gray on dark-colored cars, and chrome on light colors. There were some eye-catching new lexus colors introduced on the is 300 in 2001, and in 2002 there are more, making a total of nine.  the three rear windows on each side of the sportcross are a bit odd, the back two crowded, as if they're an unsolved design problem. Behind the rear door window there's a non-opening triangular window that looks like an old-style vent window, and behind that there's a another one shaped like a triangle/trapezoid, which neither looks in nor out on anything, and is outlined by a thick black band inside the glass where it fits against the car's interior.  lexus calls the sportcross 'more than a sedan but less than a full wagon' (that's the cross), and adds 'the new silhouette admittedly places unique design ahead of maximum utility.' this priority leaves room for a gaping hole in the concept: there is no standard roofrack, nor even an available one, nor even any rain gutters to attach an aftermarket rack; and the radio antenna, rising from the center rear of the roof, would get in the way anyhow. Lexus says the sportcross will appeal to mountain bikers, and the press kit includes a photo of a sportcross with a bike squeezed in the back to prove it, but we don't think so. The bike has whitewall tires, which suggests how much lexus knows about mountain bikers. They go everywhere in pairs; their bikes are perpetually caked in mud. Another $300 for the full leather seems like a bargain (which is not to say that $2145 for leather and power seats is a bargain).  the cockpit reflects an attempt at driver-oriented and contemporary styling in a theme of graphite-tinged plastics and machined metallic finishes. Drilled aluminum pedals, a polished metal ball shift lever rising from a notched gate rimmed by chrome, and doorsills covered with stainless steel scuff plates studded with rubber cleats add an appearance of high technology. A graphite plate on the driver-side door panel surrounds rocker toggles that power the windows, door locks and both exterior mirrors.  the instrument panel includes a round analog speedometer containing three smaller analog gauges: temperature, voltmeter and instant fuel mileage. It's designed to resemble a sports chronograph wristwatch, and in its attempt to be cute, cool, clever, unique, whatever, it fails the no-nonsense test: the instant fuel gauge is too small to be useful, as a tiny needle flips in a tiny semicircle between 0 and 80 mpg. The watch face cluster stands between a half-moon tachometer on the left, whose clarity is compromised by the clutter of the faux chronograph, and quarter-circle fuel gauge to the right, above a digital display for gear selection and trip odometer.  the vents and pods for audio and climate controls drop down from the center of the dash to the console, with a new armrest for 2002. The power bucket seats felt a bit hard and wide, compared to the fantastic optional sport seats in the bmw z3 coupe we had just climbed out of, but they felt better as that memory faded. When we drove the sportcross hard through the curves, there was adequate lateral support, and the suede-like cloth-like escaine surface was good and grippy.  a very attractive stitched leather three-spoke steering wheel (spokes at 3, 9 and 6 o'clock) tilts manually and contains left and right sets of finger buttons that enable the driver to shift up or down one gear at a time without removing his or her hands from the wheel. The front button downshifts with the thumb and the back button upshifts with the middle finger.  the sedan's firm rear bench will accommodate three in a pinch, and has a fold-down armrest that conceals a small pass-through portal to the trunk.  the sportcross model's five-door configuration, with the 60/40 rear seatbacks dropped, produces 21. 8 cubic feet of cargo space, more than twice as much as the trunk of the sedan. So he designed the chassis and suspension of the rear-wheel-drive is 300 to accommodate such a style. Last year we were impressed by the agility of the sedan, and the 2002 sportcross corners even better than the sedan, given its slightly better weight distribution (53/47 versus 54/46) and wider rear tires. But the five-speed, with its stiffer sport suspension, should corner best of all.  katayama started by mounting the engine (and battery) as far back as possible. The double-wishbone independent suspension was specifically designed to resist lateral roll in corners and front-end dive under hard braking, and it thoroughly succeeds. Meanwhile, the speed-assisted rack-and-pinion steering provides precise cornering with excellent feedback.  but it was the car's balance that was downright dazzling. Still, for $350, the vsc option remains a steal. Think ice.  the sportcross handled better in the wet than the front-wheel-drive acura tl-s, for one, did in the dry. Of all the cars we tested in the last year, only the all subaru wrx. 2006 lexus es review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale.
