2012 honda civic review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new version evolves to meet varied expectations. introductionit's been a bestseller for decades, more than 8. 8 million sold in the u. Since its 1973 introduction, and the latest redesign is aimed at making the honda civic the absolute number one player among an increasingly capable crop of compact cars.  the all-new 2012 honda civic is the ninth generation of the civic, and it has a long, distinguished record of engineering innovation. As has been the case in previous iterations, there's some of that in the 2012 civic models, too, aimed at giving it the broadest possible reach in its market segment.  on the other hand, it's not really the gee-whiz breakthrough that's distinguished some previous generations, particularly in terms of engine innovation. Though to be fair, honda has imbued some models with a little more thrust while simultaneously raising fuel economy ratings right across the board.  perhaps more important, the latest civic will be available in its broadest-ever array of models: the dx, lx, and ex sedans and coupes come with a 140-horsepower 1. 8-liter engine expected to get 28 mpg in the city, 39 mpg on the highway when equipped with the 5-speed automatic transmission.  the civic hybrid continues, with efficiency improvements for 2012. Although honda has a specific hybrid model, the insight, the hybrid returns to the civic lineup with increased power in its integrated electric booster motor and deeper electric power reserves in a new lithium-ion battery pack.  for those who don't wish to pay the hybrid premium, there's the 2012 civic hf, with exceptional fuel stinginess from a regular internal combustion power train designed for thrift. Fuel economy is up in standard civics, too.  the civic si returns as the high output member of the lineup, offered once again in coupe and sedan body styles. With the demise of the s2000 sports car, it's the only high-performance car in honda's lineup. The 2012 civic si features a new engine, a smidgen of additional horsepower, and substantially more torque. The added torque makes the si easier to drive around town without constant downshifting, significant because a 6-speed manual is the only transmission offered.  though completely redesigned, the 2012 civic looks similar to the previous-generation version. Its exterior dimensions are about the same, though the wheelbase is slightly shorter.  the cabin is attractive with quality materials and nicely designed seats with lots of adjustment and a new driver's information display. The available 160-watt audio system sounds very good and bluetooth is available for hands-free cellphone use.  underway, the 2012 civic is creamy smooth and exceptionally quiet. The brakes are easy to modulate for smooth stops in everyday driving and will stop the car quickly when called upon. Handling is average, so the standard models do not rate high on the fun meter. lineupthe 2012 honda civic comes in six models. The 5-speed manual is standard, but the 5-speed automatic is available for the lx sedan 18,655) and lx coupe 18,455).  civic ex sedan 20,505) comes standard with the 5-speed automatic. Civic ex includes six-speaker audio system, bluetooth, 60/40 split rear seat, upgraded rear-seat accommodations, one-touch power moonroof with tilt feature. The ex sedan and ex coupe are available with navi and xm radio 22,005).  civic ex-l 21,955) coupe and sedan upgrade to leather-trimmed interior and heated front seats. The civic ex-l is also available with navi and xm radio 23,455).  civic hf 19,455) sedan is designed for maximum fuel efficiency with specially tuned 1. 8-liter engine and 5-speed automatic. Civic gx sedan runs natural gas and comes with the 5-speed automatic.  civic hybrid 24,050) sedan is available with navi and xm radio 25,550) or leather 25,250) or both 26,750).  civic si sedan 22,405) and coupe 22,205) feature a high-performance 2. 4-liter engine and 6-speed manual. Navi and xm radio are available for the si sedan 23,905) and si coupe 23,705). walkaroundgiven a budget and a mission, no designer is likely to leave well enough alone, and that's true of the new 2012 civic lineup.  but this is a more of a challenge than one might think. The eighth-generation civic has been successful throughout its six-plus years, and its sleek lines still look good.  on the other hand, success notwithstanding, no automotive design lasts indefinitely. So the design leader has to find a way to retain the successful elements and still imbue the product with a sense of newness.  the new cars sport redesigned fascias, updated rear ends, and new character lines, but the basic shape, which lead designer toshiyuki okumoto calls a 'one motion form,' has the same flowing aero look. Although the wheelbase is slightly shorter, body dimensions are essentially identical, and it takes a practiced eye to tell new from old at a glance.  although the sheetmetal is basically all new, honda didn't take any chances here. Whether this will be a plus over the long service life of the design remains to be seen.  the distinction between civic generation eight and nine isn't as dramatic as the change from seven to eight, when the slick aero shape first emerged. Honda has chosen to spread its development budget over refinements and a broader model range. interiorquality materials, attractive design, and colorful instrument lighting give the civic interiors a look that's a notch or two above compact norms. The bi-plane look continues in the new car, with important info repeated at the top of the dash, allowing the driver to scan with minimum visual redirection.  forward sightlines, always the driver's first line of defense, were good in the previous generation, but even better here. We appreciated the thinner windshield pillars and mini-window set in the angle where the windshield pillar intersects the car's hood. A lot of new cars have thick a-pillars that can obstruct the driver's view of pedestrians and other vehicles, but not here.  the biggest change inside the car, though is the new i-mid, or intelligent multi-information display. There's considerable body roll in hard cornering, the tradeoff for excellent ride quality. Fuel economy figures were not official but are expected to be about 28 mpg in the city/39 mpg on the highway. Honda recommends regular unleaded gas.  th. 2007 honda civic review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. New civic si sedan joins winning lineup. introductionthe compact class remains one of the most competitive in the new car market, in number of entries as well as price. Honda in 2006 re-staked its claim to the head of the class with the introduction of a completely reworked and updated civic. And not just in the mainstream, family-car niche, but in the sporty subcompact arena, too, with the return of a hopped-up coupe, the si, the latest reincarnation of the late, lamented crx.  for 2007, everything pretty much remains the same, with one notable exception. Honda's engineers tweaked its suspension to compensate for the sedan's longer wheelbase. Front-seat passengers get the si coupe's sport seats. And both si editions come standard with an electronic stability program for added control in emergency maneuvers.  honda also continues offering a natural gas-powered sedan, the gx, which the company introduced during the 2006 model year. This reduces emissions dramatically, while improving fuel economy.  the 2007 honda civic is available in coupe and sedan versions. Other cars in the class may undercut the civic on pricing, but the civic includes important safety features, including side-impact airbags that others leave on the option list. lineupthe honda civic dx coupe 14,810) and dx sedan 15,010) are the base models. Standard equipment is confined to power windows, tilt-and-telescope steering wheel, height-adjustable driver's seat and fold-down rear seatback. The coupe gets a rear decklid spoiler. Brakes are disc in front, drum in rear. P195/65r15 tires wrap around steel wheels with full-cover hubcaps.  the lx coupe 16,760) and sedan 16,960) includes air conditioning; power mirrors; keyless remote and central locking; cruise control with steering wheel-mounted controls; a center console with sliding armrest; overhead map lights; a 160-watt, am/fm/cd stereo with mp3 and wma playback, an auxiliary input jack and speed-sensitive auto-volume control; front passenger seatback-mounted magazine pocket; and floor mats. The coupe has a rear seat walk-in feature that remembers the front passenger seat's setting. Tires grow to p205/55r16 on full-capped steel wheels.  the ex coupe 18,710) and sedan 18,710) add power moonroof; variable windshield wipers; a second 12-volt power outlet; a 60/40 split folding rear seatback; a seven-speaker, 350-watt, xm-ready, premium stereo with auxiliary input jack and steering wheel-mounted controls; and outside temperature indicator. The keyless remote adds a trunk release button. There are few options available, and honda positions its options packages and automatic transmissions as separate models, so for example, there are the civic coupe ex with voice-recognition navigation, xm satellite radio and automatic transmission 21,260) and the similarly equipped sedan version 21,260).  the si coupe 21,090) and the new-for-2007 sedan 21,290) come with all the gear found on the lx coupe and sedan plus leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, amber-tinted headlight trim rings and a body-colored rear wing spoiler. Standard tires are all-season, p215/45r17 on alloy wheels. New for 2007 and standard on both coupe and sedan is electronic vehicle stability assist system with traction control. Both also are available with high-performance, p215/45zr17 tires and the navigation system with xm satellite radio 23,040 and $23,240, respectively).  the hybrid sedan 22,600) adds to the lx's features automatic climate control, a roof-mounted radio antenna, a rear decklid spoiler and hybrid-pertinent digital data displays. The hybrid is available with the navigation system and xm satellite radio 24,350).  the gx 24,590) is essentially an lx sedan with the alternatively fueled engine.  dealers offer a wide range of honda-approved accessories (installation is extra in all instances). Among these are 16-inch alloy wheels 876), 17-inch alloy wheels 976), chrome exhaust finisher 125), fog lights 325), a full nose mask 155), a trunk tray 105), leather steering wheel cover 79) and a full menu of aero-style, exterior body add-ons for the sedan (e. G., side spoiler: $589; rear wing spoiler: $499).  rising to the challenge (read: profit potential) of the performance aftermarket, honda factory performance packages are offered for the two si models and for the lx and ex coupes and sedans. The si hfp packages include lowered springs, more tautly tuned shocks, a sports muffler, 18-inch alloy wheels, a full lower-body aero kit and the hfp emblem (coupe: $3754; sedan: est. $3800). The lx and ex hfp package for the coupe 3118) and sedan 3197) substitutes 17-inch alloy wheels, drops the muffler and adds a rear spoiler. (prices do not include installation, which is set by dealers, or tires, which are priced locally.). walkaroundhonda changed nothing on the outside of the civics for 2007. The sedans and coupes don't share any body panels. Trim elements and markings distinguish each iteration. Reinforced mounting points and gussets provide a platform to the sport compact aftermarket to make suspension and certain other modifications without diminishing body integrity.  from the front, a horizontal bar dominates the sedan grille; the si sedan gets a monochrome version of the coupe's grille, with the iconic 'si' badge at the far right end. Slender headlamp assemblies angle upwards as they curve around the fenders. A single, broad air intake fills the lower portion of the fascia.  the coupe grille sports the honda logo suspended in a two-tone frame. As with the si sedan, an understated badge tucked away in the far right reaches of the grille identifies the sporty si version. The coupe headlights are more sharply outlined. The lower air intake opens between two, geometric recesses that feed cooling air to the front disc brakes and house the optional fog lamps. The front ends, but especially the coupes', push the leading corners down and outward, emphasizing the wide track (the distance side to side between the tires).  save for a lower body character line, drawn slightly higher on the coupe than on the sedan, the sides of the new civic are more slab than sensuous. Understated fender blisters, more pronounced on the coupe, break up the otherwise featureless expanse. What excitement there is in the side view is in the sleekness of what honda calls a monoform design. A central expression of this is the windshield, the leading edge of which reaches into the hood all the way to the middle of the front wheel wells, pushing the design concept of cab forward to a new extreme. On the coupe, the windshield is raked at a radical 21. 9 degrees, the sedan's at a barely more upright 23. 9 degrees. The sail (the body panel aft of the rear side window) is unique to each model as well. The coupe's forms an acute angle emphasizing the two-door body style, while the sedan's curves down over the rear door's trailing edge, pulling the eye through the higher roofline. The coupe's be-spoilered, rounded rear profile suggests swiftness. The sedan's somewhat abbreviated trunk lid and chopped off tail end adds perceived mass to the tightly proportioned, smallish sedan. The si coupe wears an i-vtec label just forward of the rear wheel well, the si sedan the same on the lower rear side door.  likewise, the rear view of each body style differs markedly. The coupe's sloping trunk lid settles into a deep cut in the rear bumper, with the license plate sheltered in an equally deep recess. The sedan's trunk lid drops in an almost vertical, unrelieved sheer from a relatively high crest across the top. A blue, cng diamond identifies the gx model. interiorthe civic lx sedan remains the most comfortable civic we've driven. The dx edges more toward spartan inside, while the ex heads toward lush. Fit and finish meet honda standards. Plastic trim elements look high grade, although the multi-piece dash invites concern about high-mileage squeaks and buzzes.  seats are comfortable, not plush. The fabric upholstery feels durable and its robust nap assists the modest side and seat bottom bolsters in restraining occupants during spirited motoring. The si models get sport front seats with more aggressive bolsters both bottom and side for improved support. Seat bottoms provide better than average thigh support. The manual height adjustment on the driver's seat pivots on front hinges, forcing drivers to choose between seat height and legroom.  the view out the front, with the expansive windshield, low cowl and sloping hood, is unparalleled in the class. A commensurately low beltline would enhance side vision, but there's little about which to complain. Tiny front quarter windows on the sedan, necessary to allow the front door windows to roll all the way down, push the side view mirrors a bit too far rearward for qu. 2006 honda civic review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new lineup sets new standards for compacts. introductionit's hard to find a more competitive new car market than the compact class. And it's more than just price, as the number of entries has skyrocketed in recent years.  honda once led the class, in every measure that mattered, from performance to price to quality to pizzazz. And just as important image-wise, honda led the hot, sport compact niche. With the redesigned, restyled, rejuvenated 2006 honda civic models, the company has returned to the fray with renewed energy.  across the line, there's more power, improved ride and handling, and better people packaging. There are more choices as well: a sporty new civic si coupe, a fully populated tier of coupes and sedans with new engines and transmissions, and a more efficient and effective hybrid sedan. In between there's a sedan listing at $15,560 with the new five-speed automatic. The si starts at $20,290. There are other cars in the class that undercut these figures, but the civic includes important safety features, including antilock brakes and side-impact airbags as standard equipment, that many others leave on the option list. lineuphonda doesn't hold back when it comes to fleshing out a model line. A performance-oriented coupe, the si, comes with a 197-horsepower, 2. 0-liter inline-4 fitted with a six-speed manual. Standard equipment is confined to power windows, tilt-and-telescope steering wheel and height-adjustable driver's seat. Added to the no-extra-charge features on the lx are power moonroof; variable windshield wipers; a second 12-volt power outlet; a 60/40 split folding rear seatback; a seven-speaker, 350-watt, xm-ready, premium stereo with auxiliary input jack and steering wheel-mounted controls; and outside temperature indicator. There are few options available and honda positions its options packages and automatic transmissions as separate models, so for example, there is the civic coupe ex with navigation and automatic transmission 21,010) and the similarly equipped sedan version 20,760).  the si coupe 20,290) comes with all the gear found on the lx coupe plus leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, amber-tinted headlight trim rings and a body-colored rear wing spoiler. The si coupe is available with high-performance summer tires and the navigation system with xm satellite radio 22,240).  the hybrid sedan 22,150) adds to the lx's features automatic climate control, a roof-mounted radio antenna, a rear decklid spoiler, and hybrid-pertinent digital data displays. The hybrid is available with the navigation system 23,650).  dealer accessories include 16-inch alloy wheels 876), chrome exhaust tips 119), and aero-style, exterior body add-ons for the sedan. Honda factory performance packages are available for the si, one for the lx and ex coupes and sedans. The si hfp package includes lowered springs, more tautly tuned shocks, a sports muffler, 18-inch alloy wheels, a full lower-body aero kit and the hfp emblem 3880). The lx and ex hfp package for the coupe 3183) and sedan 3680) substitutes 17-inch alloy wheels, drops the muffler and adds a rear spoiler. Installation costs extra and is set by dealers. walkaroundhonda re-did everything for 2006. Not only are powertrains updated and upgraded, and a new platform developed, but the sheetmetal is new. Not a single body panel is carried over from 2005.  the sedans and coupes don't share any body panels. And trim elements and markings distinguish each iteration.  the platform underneath is new for 2006, seriously strengthened in rigidity, stiffness and crash absorption capacities, with minor adjustments to accommodate the varying dimensions of the coupe and sedan body styles. As part of its campaign to revitalize the civic's appeal to the sport compact market, honda has incorporated reinforced mounting points and gussets to allow suspension and certain other modifications without diminishing body integrity.  from the front, styling differences are subtle, but marked. A polished, horizontal bar dominates the sedan grille. Slender headlamp assemblies angle upwards as they curve around the fenders. A single, broad air intake fills the lower portion of the fascia.  the coupe grille appears more open, with the honda logo suspended on a matte-black framework. An understated badge tucked away in the far right reaches of the grille identifies the sporty si version. The coupe headlights are more sharply outlined. The lower air intake opens between two, geometric recesses that feed cooling air to the front disc brakes and house the optional fog lamps.  the front ends, but especially the coupes', push the leading corners down and outward, emphasizing the 2006's wider track (the distance side to side between the tires), which grows by more than an inch in front and by more than two inches in back over the 2005's.  save for a lower body character line, drawn slightly higher on the coupe than on the sedan, the sides of the new civic are more slab than sensuous. Understated fender blisters, more pronounced on the coupe, break up the otherwise featureless expanse. What excitement there is in the side view is in the sleekness of what honda calls a monoform design. A central expression of this is the windshield, the leading edge of which reaches into the hood all the way to the middle of the front wheel wells, pushing the design concept of 'cab forward' to a new extreme. On the coupe, the windshield is raked at a radical 21. 9 degrees, markedly steeper than the '05's 26. 7 degrees, even exceeding the acura nsx's 23. 9 degrees. And the sedan's matches the nsx's, dropping from the '05's 29. 1 degrees. The sedan's somewhat abbreviated trunk lid and chopped off tail end adds perceived mass to the tightly proportioned, smallish sedan.  likewise, the rear view of each body style differs markedly. The coupe's sloping trunk lid settles into a deep cut in the rear bumper, with the license plate sheltered in an equally deep recess. The sedan's trunk lid drops in an almost vertical, unrelieved sheer from a relatively high crest across the top, all very bmw-like in presence. interiorif the 2006 civic's exterior is new, the '06's interior borders on shocking. First impression of the instrument arrangement is of a video game. Controls are for the most part where they should be, but not necessarily as they should be. There's little symmetry in organization or shape of features and interfaces. It's not an unpleasant look, but one that requires some acclimation. Ironically, perhaps, the interiors are indistinguishable across the full line, with only minor differences necessitated by the different powertrains.  splayed across the top of the seemingly unending dash in front of the driver is a hooded opening with a digital speedometer between lcd coolant temperature and fuel level gauges. Down below, in the more common place for the instrument panel, in the half circle formed by the top half of the steering wheel, that is, there's a large, round, analog tachometer. To each side of this lower ip are large, irregular vent registers. Centered in the dash above the climate control panel is either an lcd window combining the navigation display and audio settings and, in the hybrid, a selection of graphic depictions of the hybrid system's functions and status or a stereo control head with the pertinent accoutrements. To the right of this squished pod-like arrangement, the dash curves away from the front seat passenger and houses two, more horizontally oriented vent registers, again neither of which matches the other. A wide, but not especially deep glove box rests below a cabin-wide, clam shell-like notch dividing the upper and lower halves of the dash.  there is no center stack to speak of tying together the dash and the drive tunnel.

2004 honda civic review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Economy without sacrifice. introductionhonda's highly practical civic rolls into 2004 with a subtly but significantly new look. Bumpers, hood, headlights and grille are all new on the coupe and the sedan, emphasizing a baby-brother resemblance to the slick and smooth accord. The sporty si hatchback gets new headlamps and taillamps that update its sleek look.  honda civic is an icon. Honda sells more than 325,000 civics a year in the u. S., making it one of america's best-selling compacts. Civics are notable for their excellent fuel economy and sporty handling. Front-seat comfort is superb by any measure.  the honda civic line is composed of a family of diverse models. Coupes and sedans are available. Up-level civics come with powerful vtec engines that provide brisk acceleration. The si hatchback is the flagship performance model.  all civics are fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly, but a couple of models take these benefits to the extreme. The civic hx coupe gets 44 mpg on regular unleaded. More extreme is the civic hybrid, which gets up to 51 mpg on regular unleaded. The hybrid's gas engine is assisted by an electric motor. Unlike an electric car, the hybrid never needs to be plugged in. Owning and driving a civic hybrid is just like life with a regular civic. Sedans and coupes are available in dx, lx, and ex trim. A five-speed manual transmission is standard on all models. A new value package (vp) for the dx adds air conditioning, cd player, power locks, and center console. Lx adds air conditioning, 15-inch (rather than 14-inch) steel wheels, anti-roll bars front and rear, power-operated controls, a height-adjustable driver's seat, remote keyless entry, a cd player, and other luxury features.  civic ex models get more power from a 127-horsepower vtec version of the 1. 7-liter engine. Ex also gets 15-inch aluminum wheels, body-colored power mirrors, upgraded audio with six speakers, and a tilt-and-slide glass sunroof.  civic si is only available as a hatchback and the hatchback is only available as an si. Civic si comes with a high-output 2. 0-liter engine with i-vtec (for variable valve timing with intelligence) rated 160 horsepower. Si comes with a five-speed manual and is not available with an automatic.  prices range from $13,010 for a dx sedan to $15,160 for an lx coupe to $17,260 for an ex sedan to $19,000 for the si.  specialty civics are available as well. The hx coupe 13,710) comes with highly fuel-efficient lean-burn engine that gets up to 44 mpg and achieves an impressive 117 horsepower. Civic hx comes standard with a five-speed manual transmission, but a continuously variable automatic transmission, or cvt, is optional 1,000).  the civic hybrid represents the ultimate in environmental responsibility, using a small gas engine and a big electric motor to achieve up to 51 mpg. The hybrid 19,650) is equipped comparably to the ex sedan with a five-speed manual transmission. It's also available with a cvt automatic 20,650).  the civic gx sedan comes with natural gas-powered engine, which the government rates as a sulev, or super ultra low-emissions vehicle. It produces 100 horsepower.  options are limited. Side-impact air bags 250) are optional on all models and standard on the hybrid. Anti-lock brakes (abs) are standard on ex, si, and hybrid, optional on gx, and unavailable on other models. walkaroundthe honda civic sedan and coupe get subtle styling revisions for 2004 that give them a bolder look. Up front, the bumper, grille, engine hood, and headlights are all new. Most immediately noticeable is the new grille: the horizontal bar is gone, leaving just a blacked-out opening, framed by a character line that flows smoothly into the new hood. The opening under the grille has been re-shaped into a shark-like smile and now incorporates two downward-slashing struts. The headlights are still triangular, but stretch out more diagonally as they flow around the car's front corners. These changes are small, really, but subtly suggestive of the total re-style received last year by big brother accord. The civic's rear bumper is reshaped as well, a little crisper now than before.  unchanged is the civic's wedge-shaped profile, with a high, curt tail and low, abbreviated prow. The hood sits amazingly low. Relatively flat flanks are interrupted only by a single crease that dashes from the front wheel opening to the taillight; there are no body-side moldings. Windshield pillars arch into the rolled roof to meet the narrow c-pillars. Bold tail lamps dominate the blunt rear panel. Overall, both the sedan and the coupe remain conservative in appearance, but contemporary in design.  while they look like they're from the same family, the sedan and coupe differ in appearance. The coupe features a more aggressive windshield rake for a sportier look, and its tail lamps light up in a signature pattern. The sedan and coupe do share the same wheelbase and inner structure.  the appearance of the civic hybrid sedan is also subtly different, with a deeper spoiler under the front bumper, a small spoiler on the lip of the trunk lid, and unique, lightweight aluminum-alloy wheels.  the styling of the honda civic si hatchback seems to polarize people. Some think it's ugly; others love it and are quick to defend it. It's edgy and wedgy. The huge, flat windshield is steeply raked. The nose slopes radically downward, giving the car excellent aerodynamics and driver visibility. Its unique mesh grille is framed by huge triangular headlamps which, like those of the coupe and sedan, have been updated for 2004. The si is slab-sided, without any sculpture in the sheet metal. In the past, critics have suggested the wheels and tires do not look big enough for the bodywork, but honda has taken care of that for 2004 with new and better-proportioned 16-inch alloy wheels, and a new sill molding that suggests a slimmer profile. The si features a subtle roof spoiler and a dual tipped exhaust, and comes standard with a moonroof.  honda is known for its space-efficient design, and the civic packs its engine into a condensed engine bay, leaving more space for the interior. From the driver's seat, the civic is a comfortable car. From the back seat, it is less so. As in most hondas, the passenger compartment feels airy and open.  front-seat accommodations in the civic are superb. The sedan's front seats provide excellent support, thanks to a rigid structure with aggressive side bolsters. High seat cushions make entry and exit easy. Seat fabrics for the sedan were upgraded for the 2003 model year, and the quality of the new materials and trim is excellent. Visibility when driving or parking is excellent as the driver is surrounded by glass and looks over a very low hood line.  the interior of the hybrid is a bit more posh than even that of the ex sedan, with automatic climate control and a classy two-tone finish.  civic coupes have front seatbacks that stretch broad and deep with headrests that are open at the center like a doughnut. Front seatbelts attach to a side anchor bar that slides out of the way when someone climbs into the back seat.  the si hatchback's front seats are excellent, comfortable for long drives, and supportive for hard driving. They look and feel upscale. Alcantara-like trim adds richness to the side bolsters while red stitching accents the sporty fabric in the center. The seating position in the si is a bit strange with its big dash and sharply raked windshield, reminding us of the beetle.  rear-seat accommodations in all of the civic models are not the best. They are neither roomy nor comfortable by class standards. The rear bench is low and hard and does not support the thighs well. The toyota corolla is better on this score than the civic sedan. That said, the civic's flat floor lets rear-seat passengers spread their feet out, as there's no center tunnel to get in the way. Also, the outboard rear-seat head restraints are adjustable. But three in back is a crowd.  getting into the back seats of the two-door coupe isn't easy. The coupe's front seats cooperate for rear entry by gliding forward when the seatback tilts forward; a memory function then returns the seat to its original position. Bottom line: the civic is happiest with two people, but can haul additional passengers when called upon.  in all civics, the cockpit looks clean and efficient, with the instrument panel tucked beneath a barrel-shaped cowl. Round analog instruments include an oversized speedometer and tachometer in the center, flanked by smaller fuel and coolant gauges. In the sedan, the gauge graphics are the traditional white-on-black. In the coupe, the gauges show sil. 2010 honda civic review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The benchmark for compacts. introductionthe honda civic continues to hold its position at the top of the compact class, thanks to innovative styling, refinement, reliability, and a broad model line that ranges from the eco-friendly civic hybrid to the racy civic si.  inside, all civic models are pleasant, attractive and inviting. Available technology features include bluetooth handsfreelink on navigation-equipped models, and a usb audio interface on civic ex, ex-l, hybrid, and si. We've found the civic to be comfortable in which to ride, nice to drive, and with ample windows that provide outstanding outward visibility.  the civic comes standard with side-impact airbags and other safety features that are optional on some competitive models. The hybrid model features dramatically reduced emissions, and it delivers an epa-rated 40/45 mpg city/highway.  the civic gx sedan uses natural gas for fuel. Natural gas is available to residents of california and new york and is used by fleets elsewhere.  for 2010 the honda civic line is essentially unchanged from 2009 when the styling was freshened. The civic was last redesigned for the 2006 model year. lineupthe honda civic comes in coupe and sedan versions. A five-speed automatic 800) is optional.  the civic dx coupe 15,455) and sedan 15,655) are the base models. Standard equipment includes power windows, tilt-and-telescope steering wheel, height-adjustable driver's seat and fold-down rear seatback. The coupe gets a rear decklid spoiler. Brakes are disc in front, drum in rear. The p195/65r15 tires are on steel wheels with full wheelcovers. The civic lx-s sedan 18,205) upgrades to alloy wheels, exclusive sport-trimmed black cloth seats with synthetic suede bolsters and silver stitching, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a rear deck spoiler, and a chrome exhaust tip.  the civic ex coupe and sedan 19,455) add a power moonroof; variable-speed intermittent windshield wipers; a second 12-volt power outlet; a 60/40 split folding rear seatback; and outside temperature indicator. The steering wheel reverts to plastic, but adds audio controls; while the keyless remote adds a trunk release button. The sedan's stereo adds two speakers (for a total of six); while the coupe gets a 350-watt, seven-speaker system; both get a usb interface. The ex coupe is available with manual transmission, xm satellite radio, and voice-recognition navigation 21,455).  the civic ex-l coupe and sedan 21,005) add leather seats with seat heaters, leather-trimmed steering wheel and armrest, heated mirrors, and vehicle stability assist and brake assist. They come only with a six-speed manual transmission. Other go-fast goodies include a limited-slip differential, sport suspension, vehicle stability assist with traction control, and p215/45vr17 tires on 17-inch alloy wheels. Fog lights come standard. Inside are synthetic suede sport seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an aluminum shift knob. Both coupe and sedan get the 350-watt, seven-speaker stereo. Packages include high-performance tires for the coupe 22,255) and sedan 22,455); xm and navigation 24,055 and $24,255); or all of the above 24,255 and $24,455).  the civic hybrid sedan 23,800) features a continuously variable automatic transmission (cvt), automatic climate control, a roof-mounted radio antenna, a rear decklid spoiler, and hybrid-pertinent digital data displays. Vehicle stability assist comes standard. The hybrid is available with the navigation system and xm satellite radio 25,800) and with a leather interior 25,000) including heated front seats and side mirrors, or with the leather package, navigation, and xm 27,000).  the civic gx 25,340) is essentially an lx sedan with a 1. 8-liter engine powered by natural gas. It comes only with a five-speed automatic transmission. walkaroundthe honda civic sedans and coupes don't share any body panels. Details and markings distinguish each trim level. The honda civic sedan has a grille with a tall, trapezoidal center opening with secondary scoop-like openings on either side. A grid-like insert in the center opening contrasts with a kind of cyclone-fence theme in the side scoops. Slender headlamp assemblies angle upwards as they curve around the fenders. Around back, a bright chrome bar connects the taillights just above the indentation for the license plate.  the coupe grille has the honda logo centered in an oval-themed black mesh, with a lower trapezoidal opening, and scoops at either side that are drawn out wide and horizontal and divided midway by a horizontal strut.  save for a lower body character line, the sides of the civic are more slab than sensuous. Understated fender blisters break up the otherwise featureless expanse. Honda calls it a monoform design, and a central expression of this is the windshield, the leading edge of which reaches into the hood all the way to the middle of the front wheel wells, pushing the cab-forward design concept to a new extreme. On the coupe, the windshield is raked at a radical 21. 9 degrees; the sedan's at a barely more upright 23. 9 degrees.  the coupe's spoilered, rounded rear profile suggests sleek swiftness. The sedan's somewhat abbreviated trunk lid and high, chunky tail add perceived mass to a tightly proportioned, smallish sedan.  on the si sedan, the grille bar is black instead of chrome. On both the coupe and sedan an si badge tucks into the grille's lower left side, and oval fog lights are set into the bumper's outboard openings. An i-vtec label appears just forward of the rear wheel well; on the si sedan it's placed low on the rear door. A rear spoiler wraps over the outboard edges of the sedan's trunk lid; on the coupe, the spoiler is free-standing. Both sedan and coupe roll on their own unique alloy wheels. The hybrid is understated, with just a small hybrid badge under the right rear taillight. The dx edges more toward spartan inside, while the ex heads toward lush. Fit and finish meet honda standards. Plastic trim elements look high-grade, although the multi-piece dash invites concern about high-mileage squeaks and buzzes.  seats are comfortable, not plush. Seat bottoms provide better than average thigh support. The manual height adjustment on the driver's seat pivots on front hinges, forcing drivers to choose between seat height and legroom. The si models get sport front seats with synthetic suede upholstery and more aggressive bolsters both bottom and side for improved support.  the view out the front, with the expansive windshield, low cowl and sloping hood, is unparalleled in the class. A commensurately low beltline would enhance side vision, but otherwise there's little about which to complain. Tiny front quarter windows on the sedan, necessary to allow the front door windows to roll all the way down, push the side rear-view mirrors a bit too far rearward for quick and easy glances at neighboring lanes.  controls are for the most part where they should be, but not necessarily as they should be. There's little symmetry in organization or shape of features and interfaces. It's not an unpleasant look, but one that requires some acclimation. Despite the seeming logic of the two-tier instrument display, we still haven't adjusted to the resulting weird pod draped over the top of the dash.  the dash itself seems endlessly deep; draped across its top, in front of the driver, is a hooded opening with a digital speedometer between lcd coolant temperature and fuel level gauges. Down below, in the more common place for instruments, a large, round, analog tachometer dominates the view through the top half of the steering wheel, with warning lights to either side. Outboard of this display are large, irregular vent registers. Instrument lighting is blue on most models but red on the si models.  sedans share the coupe's three-spoke steering wheel (with spokes at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions), which matches the spacey interior theme just as well. The civic navigation.

2009 honda civic review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. New look, more choices. introductionthe 2009 honda civic gets a freshened look. The civic continues holds its position at the top of the highly competitive compact class, thanks to innovative styling, refinement, honda reliability, and a broad model line that ranges from the eco-friendly civic hybrid to the racy civic si.  all 2009 civics present a fresh face to the world, with a new bumper and grille up front, and new headlight and taillight color combinations. The hybrid is available with the navigation system and xm satellite radio 25,650) and with a leather interior 24,850) including heated front seats and side mirrors, or with the leather package, navigation, and xm 26,850).  civic gx 25,190) is essentially an lx sedan with a 1. 8-liter engine powered by natural gas. It comes only with a five-speed automatic transmission. walkaroundthe honda civic sedans and coupes don't share any body panels. Details and markings distinguish each trim level. The 2009 honda civic sedan presents a bolder face to the world, thanks mainly to a new front bumper cover. Where the previous bumper looked solid and heavy, with a single, subtle horizontal opening at the center, the new design incorporates a taller, more trapezoidal center opening with secondary scoop-like openings on either side. A grid-like insert in the center opening contrasts with a kind of cyclone-fence theme in the side scoops. These changes break up some of the visual mass of the bumper. The upper grille opening is also more angular than before, which goes well with the changes below. As before, a bright horizontal bar, with a prominent honda h in the middle, dominates the upper grille. Slender headlamp assemblies still angle upwards as they curve around the fenders. Revisions to the headlights are more subtle, consisting only of where and how the color seems to show through the existing lenses. Around back, a bright chrome bar now connects the taillights just above the indentation for the license plate.  the coupe sports a new look for 2009, also. Gone is the delicate, two-tiered upper grille insert, leaving just the honda logo centered in a oval-themed black mesh. The trapezoidal opening below has been flipped, so it's now wider at the top than the bottom, and the scoops to either side are drawn out wider and more horizontal, divided midway by a horizontal strut.  save for a lower body character line, drawn slightly higher on the coupe than on the sedan, the sides of the civic are more slab than sensuous. Understated fender blisters, more pronounced on the coupe, break up the otherwise featureless expanse. What excitement there is in the side view is in the sleekness of what honda calls a monoform design. A central expression of this is the windshield, the leading edge of which reaches into the hood all the way to the middle of the front wheel wells, pushing the cab-forward design concept to a new extreme. On the coupe, the windshield is raked at a radical 21. 9 degrees; the sedan's at a barely more upright 23. 9 degrees.  the sail panel (the body panel aft of the rear side window) is unique to each model. The coupe's forms an acute angle with the horizontal deck surface, emphasizing the two-door body style; while the sedan's curves down over the rear door's trailing edge, pulling the eye through the higher roofline. The coupe's be-spoilered, rounded rear profile suggests swiftness. The sedan's somewhat abbreviated trunk lid and high, chunky tail end add perceived mass to a tightly proportioned, smallish sedan.  likewise, the rear view of each body style differs markedly. The coupe's sloping trunk lid settles into a deep cut in the rear bumper, with the license plate sheltered in an equally deep recess. The sedan's trunk lid drops in an almost vertical, unrelieved sheer from a relatively high crest across the top.  on the 2009 si sedan, the grille bar is black instead of chrome. On both coupes and sedans an si badge tucks into the grille's lower left side, and oval fog lights are set into the bumper's outboard openings. An i-vtec label appears just forward of the rear wheel well; on the si sedan it's placed low on the rear door. An interestingly shaped rear spoiler wraps over the outboard edges of the sedan's trunk lid; on the coupe, the spoiler is free-standing. Both sedan and coupe roll on their own unique alloy wheels. The hybrid, in contrast, is understated, with just a small hybrid badge under the right rear taillight. The dx edges more toward spartan inside, while the ex heads toward lush. Details and markings distinguish each trim level.    a bright horizontal bar, with a prominent honda h in the middle, dominates the sedan's grille. Slender headlamp assemblies angle upwards as they curve around the fenders. A single, broad air intake fills the lower portion of the fascia.  the coupe grille is more delicate, with the honda logo suspended in a two-tier frame. The central lower air intake opens between two geometric side recesses that feed cooling air to the front disc brakes and house the optional fog lamps. Even more so than with the sedan, the coupe front end pushes the leading corners down and outward, emphasizing the wide track (the distance side to side between the tires).  save for a lower body character line, drawn slightly higher on the coupe than on the sedan, the sides of the civic are more slab than sensuous. Understated fender blisters, more pronounced on the coupe, break up the otherwise featureless expanse. What excitement there is in the side view is in the sleekness of what honda calls a monoform design. The sedan's trunk lid drops in an almost vertical, unrelieved sheer from a relatively high crest across the top.  the si sedan and coupe have another grille variation with a body-color bar on top and a black bar underneath; an understated si badge is tucked away to the far right. An i-vtec label appears just forward of the rear wheel well; on the si sedan it's placed low on the rear door. Both feature subtle body cladding.  the mugen si is more extroverted, distinguished immediately by its bi-plane rear spoiler and aggressive aero extensions all around the lower body and a diffuser in the rear bumper. Up front is an all-black version of the si grille that looks weirdly like parted lips wearing goth-black lipstick; a mugen badge beckons from the upper right lip. Businesslike 18-inch, seven-spoke wheels, open in design to show off the brake calipers, complete the mugen ensemble. Honda promises to limit production to a maximum of 1000 for the model year, all painted fiji blue pearl.  the hybrid, in contrast, is understated, with just a small 'hybrid' badge under the right rear taillight. The dx edges more toward spartan inside, while the ex heads toward lush. Fit and finish meet honda standards. Plastic trim elements look high-grade, although the multi-piece dash invites concern about high-mileage squeaks and buzzes.  seats are comfortable, not plush. The fabric upholstery feels durable, and its robust nap assists the modest side and bottom bolsters in restraining occupants during spirited motoring. Seat bottoms provide better than average thigh support. The manual height adjustment on the driver's seat pivots on front hinges, forcing drivers to choose between seat height and legroom. The si and mugen models get sport front seats with synthetic suede upholstery and more aggressive bolsters both bottom and side for improved support.  the view out the front, with the expansive windshield, low cowl and sloping hood, is unparalleled in the class.
