2007 lexus es review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new, more powerful, more luxurious than before. introductionthe lexus es is all-new for 2007. Boasting a new 3. 5-liter engine, the 2007 lexus es 350 is more powerful than last year's es 330. In fact, the lexus es with this new engine is now a serious performer. We were impressed with it and found it quick and responsive. Lexus says it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6. 8 seconds, a solid performance from its 272-horsepower engine. Likewise, the steering and handling are much more responsive than with last year's model.  still, the lexus es is a luxury sedan that celebrates smoothness, quietude and sophistication. It doesn't suffer the hard ride of a sports sedan. The ride is smooth, the engine is smooth, the transmission operation is flawless, and everything is quiet.  the lexus es has come a long way. When toyota launched its lexus brand of luxury cars in 1989, its entry-level car was the es 250, a thinly disguised camry chassis and powertrain with an upgraded body and interior. This car's role was to give the new dealers some sales volume to help support the big ls 400. And more safety features. The all-new 2007 es 350 makes the greatest single leap in es history.  the es uses front-wheel drive, while the lexus is models are rear-wheel drive. In short, the es is designed more for luxury and a smooth, comfortable ride, while the is models are designed more for performance and handling.  the es 350 will compete with the mercedes-benz c-class, bmw 3 series, infiniti g35 and m35, audi a6, saab 9-3, volvo s60 and a host of domestics in this popular class. Freestanding options include park assist, a power rear sunshade, heated and ventilated front seats, a full-size spare tire, a wood and leather trim package, and dvd navigation with backup camera.  optional equipment includes a navigation system, satellite radio (xm or sirius), a 14-speaker mark levinson stereo system, bluetooth wireless capability for cellphones, a panoramic glass roof, and radar-adaptive cruise control.  safety features that come standard on the es 350 include dual front airbags, a knee airbag, side-impact airbags (for torso protection), curtain airbags (for head protection), electronic stability control, traction control, antilock brakes (abs), electronic brake-force distribution (ebd), and a tire-pressure monitor system. If the system senses an imminent collision, it retracts all the outboard seatbelts and triggers full panic-braking power at the pedal (but it doesn't close the windows and the sunroof like the mercedes-benz system). walkaroundthe 2007 es 350 featires the lexus l-finesse design scheme used on three concept cars and the gs and is sedans, with everything emanating from the grille and flowing back over the car in hard lines. The new look brings a new level of slickness, only 0. 28 coefficient of drag in the wind tunnel, making the es 350 inherently quieter and more fuel-efficient than before.  the first thing that impressed us was the new look and more generous physical size of the car. The grille has been subdued, the headlamp units have been made smaller and less obtrusive, and the accent line along the side has been raised to yield more musculature under the skin. Now this car looks like it belongs in a lexus showroom.  the new es 350 was consciously upsized, to about where the original ls 400 flagship car was when it was introduced. There are 10 colors to choose from.  the es 350 is about 110 pounds heavier than the es 330 due to the addition of more safety features and standard equipment built into the price. interiorif there is any part of this car that could be called a quantum leap, it's the interior, which is much more together, more modern, and more fully equipped than any previous lexus es interior.  it starts with the standard smartaccess key fob and push-button engine starting, a first for the es, and goes from there. The instrument panel and center stack are completely new and much more driver-centered, engaging and involving that previous panels. The main instruments are deeply tunneled, using white led lighting and the optitron electroluminescent displays that are part of all lexus models, with their eye-pleasing startup routine. The standard trip computer monitors a dozen functions. All of the real wood trim is from a matched set that is serial-numbered for future replacement, if necessary. The thick, fat steering wheel is a pleasure to use.  there's more space overall, within a few cubic feet of the original ls 400 v8 rear-drive sedan at 95. 4 cubic feet, with more shoulder and leg room built in, and the rear floor is flat and can accommodate large american feet under the seats. There are three interiors to choose from in leather, perforated leather, or cloth, plus optional semi-aniline leather.  the new es is insulated well. At cruising speeds, it's extremely quiet, in part due to a new acoustic-control laminated windshield.  the driving ambience is superb, with good sightlines, the hooded instruments and crisp graphics, a 10-way power seat and standard tilt/telescope steering wheel. The new es 350 benefits from a brand-new all-aluminum engine design with all the latest technologies built in, and it's a honey, with 57 more horsepower than the 3. 3-liter engine it replaces, and one more gear to run through.  for the first time, performance is part of the equation in an es. Engine and transmission are linked by several electronic modules and the electronic throttle, and there were no glitches we could find. The engine and transmission are isolation-mounted with an electro-hydraulic mounting system to cancel vibration at idle. Lexus quotes a 0-60 mph time of 6. 8 seconds, which is certainly competitive in the segment.  two important additions of standard equipment on the es for 2007 are traction control and stability control which, when combined with this new chassis, allow sporting drivers to do maneuvers that no previous es would do, and quickly. The front struts and multi-link rear suspension are both very well isolated from the rest of the car, making for a quiet, smooth ride, with greater control of pitch and body roll than the outgoing car.  we think the es could use more tire on the ground than the standard 215/55r17s it comes with (there is an optional 10-spoke wheel package, but it uses the same size tires). We'd like a little more steering feel in the corners and on the highway, but otherwise the speed-related power steering is good and solid.  although the brakes themselves are average in size for this class, the electronic control package that comes with them makes them very powerful and very repeatable, with no sign of brake fade after a hard workout. Unlike its predecessors, the 2007 es 350 is quick and quiet at the same time, screwed together better than a swiss watch, and actually has some sex appeal for the first time in its life. In light of the new design and all the new standard equipment, there is every reason to believe that the es 350 will be among the fiercest competitors in the entry-luxury segment in 2007. We think it's an excellent choice among luxury sedans.  new car test drive correspondent jim mccraw filed this report from hawaii. model lineuplexus es 350. assembled infukuoka, japan. options as testednone. model testedlexus es 350. 2006 lexus other - car review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Smooth, quiet, easy. introductionliving with the lexus es 330 is easy. It's easy to drive smoothly, keeping passengers comfortable and making the driver look like a pro. The 3. 3-liter v6 engine and five-speed automatic transmission are refined and responsive. A supple suspension gives it a civilized ride on rough city streets, beat-up freeways and poorly maintained back roads. The brakes are easy to modulate for smooth stops in everyday driving. The es 330 is front-wheel drive and its emphasis is on convenience and comfort.  the seats are comfortable, the leather-trimmed upholstery is nice, and the rich-looking interior is accented in wood and aluminum-toned brightwork. Its controls are straightforward and easy to operate. An excellent mark levinson stereo is available as a factory option, and satellite radio can be dealer-installed. The rear seats are roomy and comfortable and feature outboard seatbelt pre-tensioners and force limiters. The trunk is a decent size.  true to the lexus legend, refinement, quality, fit and finish, and attention to detail are evident throughout. It can be heard in the solid sound the doors, trunk and hood make when they're closed.  lexus freshened the exterior appearance of the es 330 for the 2005 model, and upgraded some of the interior appointments. No additional changes have been made for 2006. lineupthe 2006 lexus es 330 comes as one well-equipped model 32,300).  it comes standard with many of the same luxury and convenience features found in higher-priced lexus sedans: handsome, high-quality leather upholstery with wood trim, automatic dual-zone climate control with interior air filter, power windows with auto up/down and jam protection, a power moonroof, and an am/fm/cd/cassette system with 86 watts and seven speakers.  options include a 240-watt mark levinson audio system, six-disc cd changer and xm satellite radio. Other options include vehicle stability control (vsc) with traction control and brake assist; adaptive variable suspension (avs); dvd satellite navigation; power-adjustable pedals with memory; power rear sunshade; high-intensity discharge headlamps with rain-sensing wipers; heated and ventilated front seats; wood steering wheel and shift knob; and 17-inch wheels and tires.  new for 2006 is the es 330 black diamond edition, a package 600) that features exclusive black diamond paint, black birdseye maple wood trim, and other distinctive touches and includes an exclusive tumi luggage set.  safety was a top priority when designing the es 330. Standard passive safety equipment includes dual front airbags (mandated), seat-mounted side-impact airbags (for torso protection), and front and rear side-curtain airbags (for head protection). The front seats are designed to help reduce whiplash. The outboard rear seatbelts are fitted with force limiters and pre-tensioners. To help the driver avoid accidents in the first place, the es 330 comes standard with such active safety features as anti-lock disc brakes (abs) and electronic brake-force distribution (ebd). Optional vehicle stability control is designed to improve driver control by reducing skidding in turns. walkaroundthe lexus es 330 makes a striking styling statement with its dramatic front rake and headlamps that look like silvery cat's eyes. The front end seems to slope down in one continuous curve, from the top of the windshield, over the sculpted hood and tidy dark grille, down to the smooth air dam under the almost seamless front bumper.  tail lamps trimmed in silver echo the design, stretching around the corners, as if reaching to meet the headlamps. Nine-spoke alloy wheels complement the sheet metal. The optional 17-inch alloy wheels use a six-spoke design. The passenger compartment is reinforced in critical areas, and front and rear crush zones are designed to crumple and to help absorb the impact of a crash. interiorthe cabin of the lexus es 330 is warm and inviting. Rich wood trim, available in golden bird's-eye maple or red walnut, goes well with aluminum-like accents. All of the trim materials exude a high-quality look and feel. The standard steering wheel and shift lever are covered with stitched leather trim and look very nice. An all wood-trimmed handle for the shift lever and a wood-trimmed steering wheel are available for an even more prestigious appearance. Regardless, the steering column is manually adjustable for tilt. Steering-wheel-mounted controls for the audio system and other functions are optionally available.  the standard leather-trimmed upholstery is quite nice, and the seats are very comfortable. The seating position is excellent, with lots of front-seat legroom. Optional power-adjustable pedals are especially useful for shorter drivers, helping them find a comfortable driving position without sitting too close to the airbag-equipped steering wheel; we recommend them for families with short drivers. The seats are relatively flat, without large bolsters, making getting in and out easier. The driver's seat comes standard with 10-way power adjustments, and both front seats have a memory function. The shape and construction of the front seats is borrowed from the flagship ls 430 and they can be ordered with integrated heat and ventilation.  the es 330 is about 10 percent larger inside than a mercedes-benz c-class, with significantly more front hip room. Five is a crowd, but it'll work for short distances. Overall, it's roomier and more comfortable (with more hip room and leg room) in the back of the es 330 than in the back of a mercedes c320 sedan. The self-dimming outside mirrors offer a good view rearward and seem larger than those on german cars; we prefer the lexus mirrors. The inside rearview mirror is self-dimming (electrochromic) and features a digital compass. The slope of the rear window doesn't allow a panoramic view, though it fills the rearview mirror. The rearview mirror is mounted so close to the headliner that adjusting it requires an awkward grab at its bottom edge. An optional power rear shade filters out the blazing sun, whether driving or parked.  the clean-looking instrument panel features three round, deeply recessed pods with highly legible optitron gauges. A digital trip computer at the bottom of the speedometer displays range, average fuel consumption and other functions, controlled by a pair of buttons on the left side of the steering wheel. Similarly, a digital odometer with two trip odometers is displayed in the right pod with big fuel and temperature gauges. On the left is a big tachometer.  the optional navigation system is powerful, with excellent graphics, a huge database (5 million points of interest), and voice activation. It's a good system, but requires some experience and study to master. To reduce the chance of driver distraction, the navi cannot be programmed when the car is moving.  audio functions are integrated into the navigation system, which we found a mixed blessing. To change preset radio stations, for example,. driving impressionthe lexus es 330 delivers a smooth, refined driving experience with a smooth engine and transmission, a smooth-riding suspension, smooth brakes, and extensive measures designed to reduce noise, vibration and harshness. And did we mention this car is smooth?  the 3. 3-liter v6 engine gives the es 330 responsive performance in everyday driving situations. Lexus says the es 330 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7. 2 seconds. It's rated 21/29 mpg city/highway by the epa and is certified by the government as a ulev ii ultra-low emissions vehicle. Power ratings are down slightly for 2006, to 218 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque, but that's only because the society of automotive engineers (sae) has instituted new test procedures that tend to deliver more conservative numbers. The engine itself, and its performance, have not changed. This year's es is just as powerful as last year's model.  the transmission shifts very smoothly. Upshifts in normal, everyday driving are almost invisible. Yet the gearbox delivers responsive shifts when driving aggressively. The gated shifter allows manual gear selection, but we found this to be a clunky proposition and preferred to just leave. 2006 lexus es review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. 2000 lexus es 250 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Smooth and sophisticated. introductionthe es 300 is the entry-level ticket to the lexus experience. And all of the lexus experience is here. The lexus es 300 is arguably the most refined automobile in the so-called near luxury class -- sedans that range in price from about $29,000 to $36,000. Athletic reflexes make it fun to drive. And it's an attractive car.  for 2000, the es 300 gets a minor styling update in the front end, plus host of safety, convenience, and luxury enhancements. It received a new powertrain for 1999.  throw in dealer satisfaction that's consistently rated among the very best, and the es 300 proves tough for other car builders to match. Over the years the es 300 has performed with such appliance-like efficiency that auto critics have made vague claims about its lack of soul. This could be another way for critics to say they couldn't find much wrong with the car. lineupthe lexus es 300 retails for $31,405. The es 300 was introduced in late 1996, and by now the look is familiar: frame-less windows with a blacked-out center pillar that creates the impression of a coupe; aggressive, multi-refractor headlights; perfectly matched body seams and gem-like paint.  for 2000, the front fascia gets massaged with a new grille, featuring a wider chrome frame and two chromed horizontal bars instead of three black ones. The front bumper has been reshaped to present a more chiseled look, while high-intensity discharge headlights are a new option. In back, redesigned tail lamps now use clear lenses. The sharpened stance can be enhanced further with new optional 16-inch alloy wheels.  the 3. 0-liter, 24-valve v6 carries over from last year with 210 horsepower and 220 foot-pounds of torque at 4400 rpm. About 80 percent of peak torque is available from 1600 rpm all the way to the tachometer's redline. The lexus vehicle skid control system uses a fast computer and sensors in the wheels and steering column. When it anticipates the car is about to go out of control, the system decreases engine power or applies braking force to individual wheels to help keep the car pointed straight. An addition to the system for 2000 is brake assist. This feature interprets a quick, hard application of the brake pedal as emergency braking. If the driver is not pressing on the brake pedal hard enough to activate the anti-lock brakes (a common occurrence in accident situations), the system supplements the applied braking pressure to ensure maximum stopping performance.  at its base price, the es 300 is fairly well equipped, and its strengths still shine through. For 2000, the rear seats are recessed more, giving the driver a better field of view out the back. The trunk is larger than many in the class with plenty of room for a couple of golf bags.  one of the lexus trademarks has been superior fit and finish for its dashboards, door panels and other interior surfaces. The es 300 meets that standard. None of the plastic or vinyl surfaces look hard, brittle, or cheap. Judicious use of walnut trim and an outside temperature indicator add an expensive feel. The electroluminescent gauges pop in the brightest sunlight, yet are easy on the eyes in pitch dark. Nearly all switches fall intuitively to grasp with little distraction, and they work with a firm, satisfying click. Unfortunately, the memory buttons for the driver's seat are an exception. They're small, located on the side of the seat bottom, and troublesome to work in the dark.  most manufacturers still mount their cd changers in the trunk. Lexus, on the other hand, has found a way to put the es 300's changer in the dash, within easy reach of the driver or front passenger. And there's still adequate storage space for odds and ends in the cabin.  improvements to the interior for 2000 include an automatic sound level feature on the stereo, which adjusts volume according to ambient noise, and an auto-dimming electrochromic inside rearview mirror and driver's side-view mirror. Optional heated seats now feature two temperature settings. driving impressionsmooth, smooth, quiet and smooth. That's the overriding impression one takes from the es 300, whether it's compared to a mercedes-benz c280, an audi a4 or an oldsmobile aurora.  noise and vibration control in the es 300 cabin matches cars that cost $10,000 more. Its 60-degree v6 engine design is inherently smoother than a 90-degree v6. Lexus takes that a step farther with electronically controlled engine mounts that change dampening rates as engine speed changes.  with variable valve timing, there's a deep well of torque at all engine speeds. Off-the-line response is excellent, and the es 300's 0-60 mph times (in the low eight-second range) rank near the top of the class. Jab the accelerator at around 45 mph, and the transmission drops to a lower gear immediately. The es 300 accelerates with a nice shove in the small of the back, and 75 mph arrives in a whoosh. The es 300's basic handling trait is understeer -- a nice, safe condition that intuitively tells the driver to back off if he or she goes too fast into a corner. Its steering is a bit slower than that on some sports sedans, and its all-season tires limit grip in ideal conditions. Yet given those limitations, the es 300 is surprisingly responsive when pointed down a fast, twisting road.  tight, solid body structure is one reason. A strong unibody limits flex, and allows the es 300's macpherson-strut suspension to keep the tires firmly planted during aggressive cornering. This sedan doesn't lean excessively through curves, and it remains stable and predictable when it changes direction quickly and repeatedly. No, the es 300 isn't as playful or responsive as a bmw 3 series. But the lexus is good, clean fun, and it accelerates as fast as or faster than a number of other european sports sedans. Anyone who claims the es 300 isn't sporty is either driving way too hard or not hard enough.  occupants travel in quiet, unruffled comfort in the es 300, never jarred by expansion joints in the pavement. The refinement level goes up another notch this year with the optional 620) adaptive variable suspension system (avs). The system continuously changes each wheel's shock absorber damping rate in response to road conditions, vehicle speed, and driver inputs. It also allows the driver to select a 'sport' or 'comfort' ride characteristic. Tachometer✔ Heated Seats✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ CD Changer✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Alloy Wheels

2004 lexus es review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Smooth-riding luxury sedan gets safer and more powerful. introductionthe lexus es 330 is the smoothest, quietest car in its class. Smooth and quiet are good because it can be a rough, noisy world out there at times. This quietude can be shared with others. The 2004 lexus es 330 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph nearly a full second quicker than last year's model, which is a significant improvement that can be felt by the driver. More important, the es 330 is more responsive when driving around town. The five-speed automatic transmission has been revised for 2004 for smoother shifting and improved response. The lexus es 330 is so smooth that at times it feels seamless in operation.  the 2004 model year brings a host of other advancements that improve on this luxurious mid-size sedan. Among them: new and improved airbags, an upgraded passenger seat, and an enhanced navigation system.  the es 330 delivers a compelling combination of quality, comfort, refinement, and value. Lexus has a reputation for exceptional quality and behind the high-quality fit and finish is a great deal of careful design and detail work. Living with this car is easy. It's loaded with features that make life more convenient. Also standard are automatic dual-zone climate control with interior air filter, power windows with auto up/down and jam protection, and a power moonroof. An am/fm/cd/cassette system comes standard with 86 watts and seven speakers. A 240-watt mark levinson audio system is optional.  options include vehicle stability control with traction control and brake assist 650); adaptive variable suspension 620); dvd satellite navigation 2,220); power-adjustable pedals 140); power rear sunshade 210); high intensity discharge headlamps with rain-sensing wipers 640); heated front seats 440); wood steering wheel and shift knob 330); chrome wheels with all-season tires 1700).  safety was a top priority when designing the es 330. The front seats are designed to reduce whiplash. To help the driver avoid accidents in the first place, the es 330 comes standard with anti-lock disc brakes (abs) and electronic brake-force distribution (ebd). walkaroundthe lexus es 330 is based on the toyota camry, but is distinguished by unique styling. The rake of the es 330 combined with its streaked-back headlamps make a striking statement. The front end seems to slope down in one continuous curve, from the top of the windshield, over the sculpted hood and tidy dark grille, down to the smooth air dam under the almost seamless front bumper. The headlight cluster suggests silvery eyes pulled back at the corners.  tail lamps trimmed in silver echo the design, stretching around the corners, as if reaching to meet the headlamps. Nine-spoke alloy wheels complement the styling. It can be felt in the solid sound the doors, trunk and hood when they're closed. But sometimes the quality is hidden: the underbody is smooth, nearly flat, contributing to exceptional aerodynamic efficiency (with a coefficient of drag of just 0. 28), and the car is constructed using advanced composites and resin-steel sandwiches to further minimize the intrusion of noise. interiorthe lexus es 330 presents a warm, inviting interior. It has a warmer ambience than the german cars, namely the mercedes-benz c-class and the bmw 3 series. It harmonizes with the brushed aluminum trim, however. All of the trim materials exude a high-quality look and feel. The standard steering wheel and shift lever are covered with stitched leather and look very nice. An all-walnut handle for the shift lever and a walnut-trimmed steering wheel are available for an even more prestigious appearance. Regardless, the steering column is manually adjustable for tilt.  the standard leather upholstery is quite nice and is available in ivory, charcoal, or black. The seats are very comfortable and the seating position is excellent, with lots of front-seat legroom. Optional power-adjustable pedals are a good idea for shorter drivers because they help them to find a good driving position without sitting too close to the airbag-equipped steering wheel. The seats are relatively flat, without large bolsters, making getting in and out easier. The driver's seat comes standard with 10-way power adjustments. For 2004, the power-adjustable front passenger's seat has eight settings, including power lumbar adjustment. The shape and construction of the front seats is borrowed from the flagship ls 430.  the es 330 is about 10-percent larger inside than a mercedes-benz c-class and the front seats of the lexus offer significantly more hip room than the mercedes. Five is a crowd, but it'll work for short distances, like going to a restaurant, particularly if a member of the little people is sitting in the rear center position. The self-dimming outside mirrors offer a good view rearward and seem larger than those on mercedes-benz cars. The inside rearview mirror is self-dimming (electrochromic) and features a digital compass. The slope of the rear window doesn't allow a panoramic view, though it fills the rearview mirror. The mirror is mounted so close to the headliner that adjusting it requires an awkward grab at its bottom edge. An optional power rear shade filters out the blazing sun, whether driving or parked.  the clean-looking instrument panel features three round, deeply recessed pods with highly legible analog gauges in white-on-black graphics illuminated when the key is turned. Centered is a large analog speedometer. A digital trip computer at the bottom of the speedometer displays range, average fuel consumption and other functions, controlled by a pair of buttons on the left side of the steering wheel. Similarly, a digital odometer with two trip odometers is displayed in the right pod with big analog fuel and temperature gauges. On the left is a big analog tachometer.  the optional navigation system has been improved for 2004 with improved graphics, a larger database of points of interest (5 million compared with last year's 2 million), and new convenience functions. It's a powerful system, but like most of these systems requires some experience and study to master. Technophobes should avoid this option as they may become frustrated and simply not use. driving impressionthe lexus es 330 delivers a smooth, refined driving experience with a smooth engine and transmission, a smooth-riding suspension, smooth brakes, and extensive measures designed to reduce noise, vibration and harshness.  the 2004 model's 3. 3-liter v6 engine, which replaces the previous 3. 0-liter v6, produces 225 horsepower and 240 pounds-feet of torque (compared with last year's 210 hp and 220 lbs.-ft.). The larger displacement endows the es 330 with better performance. The increased torque improves the car's responsiveness in everyday driving situations. According to lexus, the es 330 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7. 2 seconds. It's a responsive engine, but the es 330 is not lightning quick. The es 330 has an epa city/highway fuel economy rating of 20/29 mpg and is certified by the government as an ultra low emissions vehicle (ulev ii).  the transmission was revised for 2004 for smoother shifting and it shifts very smoothly. Upshifts in normal, everyday driving are almost invisible, but the transmission is responsive when driving aggressively. Downshifts are responsive but smooth, a big improvement over last year's transmission. Also, less downshifting is needed with the increased torque and wider power band of the larger en. Also, less downshifting is needed with the increased torque and wider power band of the large. 2004 lexus other - car review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale.
