2013 mazda mazda3 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Sporty compact sedan and hatch. introductionthe mazda3 is a sporty alternative to the honda civic and toyota corolla. Launched as a 2010 model, the current-generation mazda3 got a refresh for 2012, including mazda's skyactiv technology. the mazda3 looks smooth, pretty and aerodynamic. The sedan boasts a smooth 0. 27 coefficient of drag, while the five-door gets a 0. 29 cd, slippery for a hatchback. This reduces wind noise and improves fuel economy. Skyactiv is the most fuel-efficient of the lineup, with an epa-estimated 27/39 mpg with the standard 6-speed manual, and an impressive 28/40 mpg city/highway with the optional 6-speed automatic. A 6-speed manual is the only available transmission. It's fun to drive, but fuel economy suffers with a mediocre 18/25 mpg city/highway. the mazda3 models have nice interiors with terrific seats. Controls are intuitive and easy to reach and use. The center stack is clean, the gauges clear, and digital information accessed by a thumb scroll on the steering wheel. Both come with 60/40 split folding rear seats, and they fold nearly flat, so the cargo space can be expanded enormously. In a pinch, the sedan can carry most of what the hatchback can. ride quality is firmer on the mazda3 than on most competitors, and could be deemed harsh by someone used to driving a corolla. The suspension on all mazda3 models deliver a feel that's more european than japanese. Harsh patches and rough roads never made the ride uncomfortable, however. Mazda3 is front-wheel drive. the mazda3 is a great alternative for those who want a compact sedan with sporty driving dynamics. Mazda3 competes directly with honda civic and toyota corolla, chevrolet cruze, hyundai elantra. The hatchback also competes with the ford focus hatch or hyundai elantra gt. It's powered by a 263-hp turbocharged 2. 3-liter inline-4 that's mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, and uses a limited-slip differential. Exterior features include a unique front grille, 18-inch alloy wheels, foglights and a unique rear roof spoiler. a variety of packages and stand-alone options are available for each trim level. safety equipment on all 2013 mazda3 models includes dual front airbags, front side airbags, curtain side airbags, active front head restraints, and anti-lock brakes with brake assist and electronic brake-force distribution. The front fascia below the bumper looks great, even if the sporty black air intakes are more cosmetic than functional. front fenders are puffed out forward of the wheels. The sedan's coefficient of drag is 0. 27 cd, with the 5-door hatchback at 0. 29 cd. Those are great numbers for a hatchback that isn't also a fastback (like the audi a7). rear bumpers on mazda3i models are clean and body-colored. On upper trim levels, 16- and 17-inch alloy wheels are sporty and handsome. Thanks in part to those wheels, it looks like it's moving even when it's standing still. interiorevery control on the mazda3 instrument panel is intuitive and easy to reach and use. The center stack is clean, the gauges are clear, and digital information is accessed by a thumb scroll on the steering wheel. In fact, mazda3 is one of the only cars in its class with standard steering-wheel controls. The digital information is easy to read in the sun, at least in the skyactiv models, with blue meter illumination. Others have gray, and the mazdaspeed3 is red. we drove a mazda3 with terrific leather seats, and one with cloth seats, same padding and bolstering but firmer, maybe because cloth skin gets stretched more, and leather has inherent cushioning. the sedan's trunk has 11. 8 cubic feet of space, and the hatchback has 17 cubic feet behind the rear seat. The rear seats are split 60/40, and they fold nearly flat, so the cargo space can be expanded enormously. the 6-speed automatic transmission can be switched to manual mode and shifted with the gated lever. The shift action is another place where mazda logic rules: the lever goes back to upshift, forward to downshift, as in many race cars, because those directions flow with the g-forces on the body during acceleration and deceleration. It's a feel thing, not a think thing. driving impressionthe 2. 0-liter skyactiv powertrain performs ideally. We tested it hard, and it works. The engine makes 155 horsepower and 148 foot-pounds of torque, enough for plenty of acceleration.

Sporty and fun. introductionimproved for 2006, the mazda 6 is the sports sedan of front-drive midsize cars. While the toyota camry and honda accord are designed for mass appeal or, stated more cynically, for people who don't like cars, the mazda 6 is designed for the driving enthusiast. Mazda6, as the company calls it, is not for everyone, and that's just fine with mazda. the mazda 6 looks leaner than its competitors and the driving experience backs that up with agile handling and responsive engines. The mazda 6 feels tighter in corners and holds the road better than camry, accord or nissan altima. It's lighter on its feet and stops quicker. In short, it's a better driver's car. The 5-door excels at carrying cargo, yet it doesn't look like a hatchback; in fact, it takes a sharp eye to distinguish it from the sedan. Mild styling revisions give it a cleaner look. New front seats are designed for greater comfort and support, new cloth fabrics, a new center console, new door panels, and other features make the cabin more comfortable and more convenient. The brakes have been upgraded for 2006 with bigger ventilated front disc brakes designed to reduce stopping distances, resist brake fade and improve pedal feel. Also, 18-inch wheels and tires are available. the new 2006 mazdaspeed6 is a turbocharged, all-wheel-drive sedan carefully tuned by mazda's performance division. All-wheel drive helps tame its 274-horsepower turbocharged engine, its close-ratio six-speed manual gearbox is remarkable for its easy, smooth-shifting action, and its suspension is firm but not unbearably so. It comes with sporty fabric or leather upholstery and other luxury features. Several levels of trim are available. The standard transmission is a five-speed manual; a six-speed automatic is optional 950). A six-speed manual transmission, electronically controlled all-wheel drive, electronic stability control, and enhanced brakes and suspension complete the package. Both come with the bose audio. options for all mazda 6 models include a navigation system 2,000), an in-dash 6cd player 500), a cassette player 200), and a long list of accessories. walkaroundthe mazda 6 is the sportiest of the midsize sedans. Visually, it has more personality than the accord and other midsize cars. It has a strong front-end treatment that's consistent with other mazdas. Cat's-eye headlamps and big, multi-element tail lamps enhance the action at each corner of the car. the mazda 6 benefits from a kind of muscular conservatism inside and out. Everything in, on and under this car makes sense, and it all looks good doing it. The relationship of the lower body to the upper body looks perfect, yet the roof shape is designed for people, not for style. Its sporty profile makes the mazda 6 look smaller than it is. 2006 brings some styling revisions to the mazda 6 line. New headlamps, revised tail lamps, new front and rear bumper fascia, and new side sills add more edge to the styling. Fog lamps are incorporated into the front spoiler. A new sport grille, dark gray headlamp bezels, and a rear spoiler add distinction for top-line models. Also, 18-inch wheels have been added to the options list. Bright island blue and tungsten gray have been added to the color palette for 2006, and we really liked the new dark cherry, which will be mistaken for black in some lighting conditions. the shape of the mazda 6 is truly fetching when painted a hot color and accented by sport-level trim, which includes a body-color front grille, gray headlight bezels, clear-lens halogen fog lamps, dual oval exhaust outlets, front and rear air dams, and side sill extensions. The outside door handles are well designed and easy to grab. the 5-door hatchback features an extended rear roof pillar sloping rearward into a raised deck lid. As mazda says, it looks fast even when standing still. Casual observers may not notice the difference between the 5-door and the sedan. the sport wagon looks sleek, clean and aggressive, if not as overtly sporty as the hatchback. the new mazdaspeed6 is distinguished by its slightly lowered stance and by its exclusive front fenders, hood, and grille, among other body panels. An aerodynamic front bumper and lower grille section hint at high performance, while flared side skirts draw attention to 18-inch aluminum wheels. The wagon has a stiffer chassis than the 5-door due to the large rear opening of the hatchback. A stiff chassis is a key element to achieving sharp handling and a smooth ride. interiorthe front seats of the mazda 6 are comfortable through a wide range of adjustments and have been improved for 2006. We found them suitable for hard driving, with good upper body support and enough lower back support with the optional lumbar adjuster for all-day comfort. The leather package adds cowhide to all the right places, with thankful perforations on the seating surfaces. the mazda 6 interior is designed to be comfortable for front and rear passengers in the 95th percentile of all body shapes. The rear seats are quite comfortable, whether in the sedan, hatchback or wagon. 2010 mazda mazda6 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Looks great, drives terrific. introductionthe mazda6 was all-new for 2009, completely redesigned and re-engineered. Its launch was lost in the recession, but it carries into 2010 as one of the most appealing midsize sedans on the market. Mainly, it delivers sparkling performance and is a terrific driving experience among midsize sedans. It's also attractively priced. the mazda6 is roomy inside. The 3. 7-liter v6 makes 272 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque, delivers extraordinary performance and is still epa-rated at a commendable 17/25 mpg, city/highway. The v6 is among the most powerful in its class and is a delight to drive. Prices begin at under $20,000 and can go to over $30,000 for a full loaded v6, but a very nicely equipped mazda6 can be had for around $30,000. They are all sedans; no wagon, no two-door, and no mazdaspeed versions are currently available. the mazda 6 is available with a full range of features and technology, including navigation with voice activation and all the expected sound system capabilities. But what we like most about the mazda 6 is its driving dynamics. the mazda6 competes against an impressive group of midsize sedans, but we think people shopping the toyota camry, honda accord, chevrolet malibu, nissan altima, or hyundai sonata should have the mazda6 on their comparison test-drive lists. Particularly, those who enjoy and appreciate a higher level of the driving experience need to consider the mazda6, because it has a sportiness aspect not matched by the competition. changes for 2010 are minimal. Accessories include auto-dimming mirrors 200), rear spoiler 475), and splash guards 150). The mazda 6s has the 3. 7-liter v6 engine, a six-speed automatic transmission, and chrome dual-exhaust outlets. Despite this, it doesn't look like a big car, especially with nothing adjacent for scale. An upper body crease that would normally go to the front wheel stops just shy of that floating fender, and the rear wheel arches have double creases to mirror the front. the mazda6 five-sided grille has a deep v-shape to it and it's all body-colored. There is no chrome beyond the logo wings, and darker colors show even fewer character lines for the most fluid appearance. Fog lights are set in horizontal openings but the lights themselves are vertically-oriented. at the rear, taillamps wrap well around the sides, and v6-model exhausts are distinctively shaped stand-offs not actually connected to the pipes themselves. The exception is the console trim that slashes across the passenger's dash which, on some models, appears a cross between silver-veined black granite and ash-black burnt wood with wide rings in it. It's a look we've not run across recently. There is generous room inside, so even six-foot-plus bodies can sit in front and then jump in back without moving the front seat, even on cars with the moonroof. The hood slopes out of sight, common in this aerodynamic era. The roof pillars are not so wide that they obstruct vision; the outside mirrors are fairly low and so is the dashboard, all adding up to a good view out. When shifting an automatic manually the gear selected is shown in a large font above the odometers. at top center of the dash is a deep red digital display for climate, radio and clock information, easily read by anyone in the car. Below it are center vents, the audio system or navigation if so equipped, and basic three-ring climate controls.
